From the other side of the exam table...

As many of you know, I have been training for the Buffalo half-marathon since the winter. I should say, I was training for it. About 7 weeks ago when the training was really picking up, I had a great run on the treadmill and got off and immediately started to do some squats. In retrospect, I should have given myself a little rest. I felt a pop in my hip and a sharp pain.
After that incident, I rested up for about..eh 5 days. I picked up the training again, going up to an 8 mile run a couple weeks ago. Now, the hip had been bothering me all along but I was being a lil stubborn about it. The last long run did me in. I'm talking full-on limp, unable to go up the stairs, losing sleep and husband scolding me type of pain. I rested another 2 weeks and finally gave in and made an appointment with a sports medicine specialist that I work very closely with.
The probable diagnosis is a proximal rectus femoris tear at the AIIS, ruling out a labral tear of the hip. Now for all my non medical/physical therapist friends, that means I either tore my hip flexor or tore cartilage in my hip. I'm having an ultrasound done in a week to confirm the diagnosis. Of course, running the marathon is now out of the question...just at peak training time. I'm not enjoying being the patient this time. I'm the one scolding and testing and poking and prodding the people most of the time. It's a strange experience.
Well, enough of my whining. I'll post the results of the test when I get them.

Just to add insult to injury (literally) this came in the mail yesterday.
